You know it’s almost summer when Nectarines show up at the Farmer’s Market. I’ve been dreaming about blending our favorite stone fruits together again, some of our most popular blends.
Did you know that nectarines and peaches are related? They are from the same family, but nectarines don’t develop the signature peach fuzz! Instead their smooth skin is more like a plum. Nectarines are firmer and spicier, making a beautiful puree for baby with some cinnamon or lemon zest. Hooray for stone fruits!
Our stone fruit blends have been popular with all ages, perfect over a bowl of greek yogurt for your toddler or you! I like to use leftover stone fruits in bars, a perfect summertime treat. I prefer using natural fruit vs. preserves, so I adapted this recipe from Epicurious for Apricot Walnut Bars to use whole fruit.
Simply substitute the preserves with 1 cup of cooked fruits. I used apricots, pitted and cooked down in a pot for about 30 minutes (skins and all). You can use nectarines, peaches, or cherries. Simply sweet and delicious!
This week we’re featuring nectarines on our menu for the first time this season. Direct from Ferarri Farms, we’re serving them simply pureed, with cinnamon, or cinnamon and brown rice.
Happy stone fruit season!
